  • April Brew Lounge!

We've scheduled our April Brew Lounge for the 17th from 6pm to 8pm. You'll meet other homebrewers and lovers of beer—just remember, you need to bring beer to enjoy it! (The store bought stuff is just fine!)

  • Q&A: Connecticut Beer Trail

With all the new breweries that have recently popped up in Connecticut, it makes sense to have a place to network with them. I did a little Q&A with Bryon Turner of the Connecticut Beer Trail to see what they are all about, and to find out more about the Bikes And Beers event that we'll be doing with them this Saturday!
    CT Beer Trail

First, can you please give me a little background on the Connecticut beer trail?
The CT Beer Trail represents the states breweries, brewpubs, home brew shops and many of the craft beer bars as well.  Our mission is to promote and fost the state's growing craft beer communities.  We love to promote Connecticut beer and beer related events.  We plan and host our own events too, like our recent home brew competition at the Cambridge House Brew Pub, and our state-wide Bikes & Beers events.  We're also working with the local industry leaders to develop the CT Brewers' Guild, with a focus on helping Connecticut's craft brewers work together to enahnce the industry and edcuate consumers.

What is the trailblazers club and how do you become a member?
Getting a membership to the CT Beer Trail website is free for regular consumers, but we also offer an incentive program.  Once you join you get access to a portion of our website others do not.  You also get a membership card that entitles you to discounts at breweries, brew pubs, beer bars and home brew shops all across Connecticut.  You can also enter contests with the best prices held exclusively for our Trail Blazers' Club members.  We'll have Trail Blazers' only events and other surprises all year long!  You can sign up online at CTBeerTrail.net, or come see us at one of our events, including this Saturday's Toys for Tots event.  50% of the profits from the sales of CT Beer Trail merchandise at Saturday's event will be donated to the charity!

How did the Bikes and Beers events come about?
About two years ago we decided we needed to find a way make the state's newly formed beer trail more of an actual trail.  After some discussion we developed the idea of reaching out to local bike shops to host organized bike rides that bring local beer fans to various craft beer destinations throughout the state in a more creative way.  The cycling and craft beer communities overlap and mesh well, these events have been very successful.

Can you tell me a little about the event that's taking place on Saturday?
Saturday's ride will be the final event for our second Bikes & Beers season; we hope to have a great turn out so we can make the holidays a little brighter for area children.  If we get enough participants, the ride could be helpful in raising awareness for the Toys for Tots charity.  Even if you don't ride it will be worthwhile coming out.  Those that donate toys will get some discounts on great local beer at The Outer Space in Hamden, and our friends at Luck & Levity in New Haven have some surprises for the riders at the midway point.  We hope everyone who reads this will at least consider stopping in at The Outer Space to donate a gift and have a beer.  We're asking everyone to assist us in getting the word out about this event and this worthy cause!

What's your favorite beer to enjoy after a bike ride?
Most of our rides take place in the warmer weather, so I'm usually partial to something a bit lighter, or perhaps hoppy...  But this event will be the first we've done in the winter months, so I'm thinking something a big stronger may be in order.  Then again, a home brewed beer is always nice too, we're looking forward to seeing what our friends at Luck & Levity have in store for us at the mid-ride pit stop.  We've had some great sponsors over the last two years for our Bikes & Beers events, including New England Brewing, City Steam Brewery, and our friends at Thomas Hooker Brewing, all producers of excellent post ride beers.  Bottom line, we prefer to drink local Connecitcut beer, and we encourage all of you to do the same.  Cheers!

The Bikes And Beers event to support Toys For Tots will take place Saturday, December 8th at 1 PM. Click here for more information.

Excited for tonight & tomorrow's Grand Opening weekend? Beer, peanuts, popcorn, a live band. No cover. What more could you ask? (Oh yeah, we also have beer, cider, and mead making supplies. We should probably mention that.)
